I want to be more active
Active kids are happy kids - they like to be running around and having fun.
In fact, kids need to do at least 60 minutes of physical activity that gets their heart beating faster than usual. And they need to do it every day to burn off calories and prevent them storing up excess fat in the body which can lead to cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease. It also keeps their bones healthy and encourages muscle strength and flexibility.
It's important to try and do activities that really get their hearts pumping. This can be things like jumping, skipping, dancing and running. Not only does it make them feel good, but it helps to exercise their bones too and protect against brittle bone disease in later life.
Adults need to be more physically active too. Many of us aren't too keen on the idea of exercise. It might be that we're too busy, or tired and achy. Or simply can't face the thought of it.
Building activity into your day gives you more energy and strengthens joints so that you don't feel so achy. It doesn't have to be vigorous workout - all movement counts.
Build up to being active for 30 minutes, 5 times each week. Every 10 minutes counts so it's easy to get going.
Tower Hamlets has lots of activities available for children and families to get up and about and get active.

Cycling
The Healthy Borough Programme is funding a number of 'Community Led' cycling projects, encouraging more people to cycle more often in the borough.
Walking
Walking is a great way to both be more physically active and explore the borough at the same time. If you haven’t taken part in an organised walk before then it’s also great for meeting new people and learning new routes.
Swimming
Swimming is an enjoyable activity and everyone can take part at their own pace, irrespective of whether they are a poor swimmer or a budding athlete.
